David Given

David M. Given is the managing partner and a co-founder of Phillips, Erlewine, Given & Carlin LLP, located in San Francisco. A graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law, David’s music and entertainment law practice encompasses both litigation and transactional work. Among other things, David counsels artists and estates on the disposition of their creative property and royalty interests. He has played a central role in guiding the estates of literary luminary Alan Watts, jazz great Vince Guaraldi and the Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia. He was instrumental in formulating and executing upon the Jerry Garcia Estate LLC, the post-administration vehicle for the management of Jerry's invaluable intellectual property. For two years, David served as a chairman of the American Bar Association’s Forum on the Entertainment and Sports Industries. He has lectured at University of California Berkeley School of Law and Stanford Law School, and has been a featured speaker at SXSW for the last dozen years.
