Felix Tunador
Felix Tunador is the Associate Director of Programs and Grant Management at St. John’s Well Child and Family Center and oversees the Transgender Health Program, among other support programs at the organization. He is keenly versed in social determinants and how they relate to health outcomes for transgender people, through his work, research, and personal experiences. Tunador holds a BA in sociology and Near East Languages and Civilization from University of Washington and an MA in sociology from University of Connecticut with a focus on the interplay of race, sexuality, gender, and immigration. His first foray into healthcare was as a volunteer for an outpatient HIV/AIDS program in Seattle in the early 2000s. Prior to joining St. John’s, he worked with queer and trans youth in both university and community capacities, empowering the youth to harness their own agency, and to recognize intersectional axes of identities and the radical power of staying alive in a dangerous world. St. John’s commitment to the South LA transgender population, through providing quality primary care and employment opportunities, is what drew Tunador to the organization. In conjunction with the Program Manager, he is working to expand the Transgender Health Program through new programs that address this population’s unique challenges in a time when we all need each other’s support most.
