Richard Jennings
Richard T. Jennings, M.D., M.S.
Dr. Jennings attended the OU School of Medicine and completed residency training in obstetrics and gynecology and a residency in aerospace medicine. He was as a NASA flight surgeon from 1987-1995 and served as the Chief of the Flight Medicine Clinic and Chief of Medical Operations-Space Shuttle. He provided care in the Flight Medicine Clinic until 2013. He was crew surgeon or deputy crew surgeon for 14 Shuttle missions and provided mission support to 45 Shuttle flights. In 1995 he joined the faculty at UTMB and served as the deputy director and director for the UTMB NASA-JSC aerospace medicine residency and served as an Aviation Medical Examiner in the Aerospace Medicine Center. At UTMB he supervised the UTMB (HBR)Wyle physicians that support NASA in operations and advanced projects at JSC, GCTC, and Kazakhstan. As lead flight surgeon for Space Adventures, he supported 5 Soyuz missions in Kazakhstan and Russia. He is currently a clinical professor at UTMB and serves as a flight surgeon for Space Adventures and consultant to SpaceX and Virgin Galactic.
