Richard Matson
Richard Matson is the VP, Theatrical Distribution at The Orchard - an independent film, TV and music distribution company that operates in over 25 global markets. The Orchard’s film division has enjoyed such recent successes as the Academy Award-nominated documentaries CARTEL LAND and LIFE, ANIMATED. Taika Waititi’s THE HUNT FOR THE WILDERPEOPLE, Academy Award-winner Morgan Neville’s THE MUSIC OF STRANGERS, and Pablo Larrain’s Golden Globe-nominated NERUDA.
From 2004 to 2017 Richard served as the president of Matson Films. Founded in NYC in 2004, Matson Films serviced theatrical distribution of 20+ films per year for a wide array of industry partners. Films distributed through these partnerships ranged from major festival winners and Oscar-nominees, to cult classics.Theatrical clients included Participant Media, Gaiam, Film Movement, Kino Lorber, MarVista Entertainment, Snag Films and Bond 360.
Richard attended Hampshire College, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and graduated from Columbia College.
