Melkon Khosrovian is the co-founder and principal spiritsmaker at Greenbar Distillery, Los Angeles’s first distillery since Prohibition and maker of a growing portfolio of craft, organic spirits.
He got his start in 2002 by making complex infusions for his fiancée, who hated the taste of straight vodkas and fruit brandies his family served during dinners. She liked the layered infusions much better and began to participate in the family tradition of toasting and sipping spirits with meals.
Soon, friends and family clamored to buy Khosrovian’s real-ingredient concoctions and the couple decided to turn their pastime into a profession in 2004 by launching Greenbar Distillery, then called Modern Spirits.
Today, the company makes the world’s largest collection of craft, organic spirits ─ include BAR KEEP bitters, CRUSOE rum, FRUITLAB and GRAND liqueurs, IXÁ tequila, SLOW HAND whiskey, TRU gin and TRU vodka ─ available in all 50 states and growing internationally.
Prior to starting Greenbar Distillery, Melkon owned a software firm. He holds a master’s degree in journalism from USC and a bachelor’s in philosophy from Connecticut College.
