Clifford V. Johnson’s work in science ranges from teaching and research to public outreach where he strives to put science back into the general culture. He helps artists, writers, and filmmakers incorporate science into their work, appears on several TV and online shows, gives public lectures and participates in panel discussions and other events. He was science advisor for several movies and TV shows such as Marvel's Thor: Ragnarok and Agent Carter (S2), Star Trek: Discovery, and National Geographic's Genius, about the life and work of Einstein. Johnson also writes about science, and has written and drawn a graphic-novel-style book featuring science: "The Dialogues: Conversations about the nature of the Universe" (MIT Press), listed as one of the best science books of 2017 by Science Friday. His research is part of the international effort to understand and describe the origin and evolution of the Universe and its fundamental constituents, and the nature of space and time. He works mainly on superstring theory, quantum gravity, and M-theory, studying fascinating objects such as black holes.
