Alfred Ironside has supported social justice causes for more than ten years at the Ford Foundation, the nation’s second-largest philanthropy with $12 billion in assets and grant-making in eleven global regions. He guides executive communications, audience engagement, reputation management, and strategies that illuminate issues. The work he contributes to helps protect and advance fundamental rights and human dignity around the world.
He joined the foundation from the United Nations, where he served as spokesperson and chief of media relations for UNICEF, traveling to more than 40 countries in crisis to address issues affecting children and women. He has lived on three continents and worked in disaster relief, the ad business, newsrooms, and in the U.S. Foreign Service. A native of Philadelphia, Alfred holds degrees in both political science and communications from Butler University, and a master’s in media administration from Syracuse.
