Cassie Shankman
Cassie Shankman is an Austin-based composer/orchestrator, pianist and DJ (Cass&Ra). As a composer and orchestrator, she has been recognized for her work with film, visual artists, chamber groups, wind ensembles, apps, musicals, and music therapy technology. As a proponent for music education, Cassie is the co-founder and head of marketing for Picardy Learning, an interactive platform for developing theory and musicianship skills. She is also an active committee member for the Grammy Foundation's education board. Cassie has recently joined on as Managing Director for the non-profit Golden Hornet, a music composition laboratory for commissioning and producing new and original works co-founded by composer/bandleader Graham Reynolds.
Cassie's love for music, tech, and marketing brought her to do artist management and digital media marketing for various musicians, artists, actors, and tech companies across the U.S. She designs and executes client’s overall digital presence, promotes their assets, and also helps coordinate tour marketing and promotion.
She is a graduate from The University of Texas with a degree in music composition and a secondary focus in film studies. She also studied music production with the Berklee College of Music.
Her current focus is creating compositions utilizing brain-based music technology in collaboration with Austin's Center for Music Therapy. She'll be speaking at SXSW 2017 on this topic, "Movement Tracks: Where Biotech and Music Converge."
