Dale Dougherty
Dale Dougherty is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Maker Media, Inc., which launched Make:magazine in 2005, and the Maker Faire event series, which held its first event in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2006. Dale’s vision and mission continue to be the guiding force for the family of brands.
Make:magazine, which brings the do-it-yourself mindset to everyday technology, began at O’Reilly Media, a technical publisher and conference organizer known for its advocacy of Open Source and the Web. Dale was a co-founder of O'Reilly Media, the first editor of their computing trade books and also coined the term "Web 2.0" while developing the Web 2.0 Conference.
An early Web pioneer, Dale was the developer of Global Network Navigator (GNN), the first commercial Web site launched in 1993. He is a former publisher of Web Review, the online magazine for Web designers, and also developed the Hacks series of books.
