Galen Bremer
Galen Bremer (composer, musician, and filmmaker), is based in Brooklyn, NY. He is the Artistic Director of Dance Films Association, a Brooklyn based arts organization dedicated to the production, presentation, and preservation of dance on camera, and the Producer of the Dance on Camera Festival, which is co-presented annually by the Film Society of Lincoln Center and Dance Films Association. Bremer has produced a number of year-round events for DFA and other organizations that share in his vision of championing artists that use technology as a means of innovative collaboration and groundbreaking presentation.
His artwork focuses on experimentation using noise, modular synthesis, and elements of performance art, and includes frequent collaborations with NYC-based choreographers and filmmakers. Bremer has created films and music compositions that have accompanied danceworks at venues in NYC and abroad, such as New York Theatre Workshop, Dance Theatre of Harlem, New York City Center, Lincoln Center, as well as the New Dance Festival in Daejeon, South Korea and the Muestra Internacional de Videodarte y Videeodanza, in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Bremer appears on FatCat Records with NYC-based art rock band, Forest Fire. His music has been described as “ominous” (The NY Times) and “addictive, hypnotic” (Pitchfork Media). Bremer earned his B.A. in Music/Performing Arts: Jazz Studies from the University of North Carolina at Asheville, where he focused on contemporary music and improvisation. He was recently an artist in residence at Fleet Moves Dance Festival in Wellfleet, MA and was a 2016 Marble House Project Resident in Dorset, VT.
