Stephen Pont
Stephen Pont, MD, MPH is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics with the UT Austin Dell Medical School and an adjunct professor in the UT-Austin Departments of Advertising and Nutrition. Dr. Pont serves as the founding medical director of Dell Children's Texas Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Childhood Obesity, which strives to empower families and communities to lead healthy, happy lives through multidisciplinary individual and group programs, advocacy initiatives, research interventions, and through spreading healthy messages in English and Spanish through TV, radio, print, and social media. Dr. Pont also serves as the medical director for Austin Independent School District’s Student Health Services whose Dell Children’s employed staff cares for Austin ISD’s nearly 85,000 students and 120 campuses. Dr. Pont works with many local, state, and national organizations to promote health and wellness and to reverse the childhood obesity epidemic, including the American Academy of Pediatrics where he served as the founding chair of AAP Section on Obesity and with the Children and Nature Network & Marathon Kids where he serves on the governing board of directors. In his free time Dr. Pont and his sons and wife enjoy an annual mission trip to Guatemala with their church, nature hikes, playing the guitar and learning Bakido at South Austin Karate and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at the Vasquez Academy.
