lllya Szilak is an independent scholar, writer, and new media storyteller. Shaped by her experience as a physician, her artistic practice explores mortality, embodiment, identity, and belief in a media-inundated and increasingly virtual world. Her longtime collaborator is Cyril Tsiboulski of Cloudred Studio (NY). Both her works Reconstructing Mayakovsky (www.reconstructingmayakovsky.com) and Queerskins (www.queerskins.com) are included in the Electronic Literature Collection, and have been taught at the university level as narrative game and digital literature. She has exhibited her work in the U.S.,Japan, and Europe. Chosen for the Oculus Rift Launchpad lab. She is currently working with Cyril Tsiboulski on Atomic Vacation, a post-apocalyptic database narrative game for Oculus Rift Touch (expected 2018). She is also the recipient of a grant fromThe Sundance Institute and Arcus Foundation to create VR experience based on Queerskins. In 2016, she was the recipient of a digital narratives residency at BANFF Center in Canada.
