Johnson began his career in the entertainment field as Managing Partner of The Cottonwood Café, a landmark restaurant/club in the New York City music scene. Johnson was appointed Senior Director, Writer/Publisher Relations for BMI (also in New York, NY) in 2001, a position he held for five and a half years. At BMI, Johnson worked with such artists as Norah Jones, Taylor Swift, and Gavin DeGraw. Until 2009 Johnson headed the publishing division of Razor & Tie Entertainment which he was hired to create in 2006. R & T publishing signings during Johnson's tenure include Matisyahu, Drive-By Truckers, Natalie Grant, Catt Gravatt, and Phillip Larue. Henceforth Johnson has been the East Coast rep for Global Positioning Services Management.
