Zach Ryall
Zach Ryall is the Digital managing editor for the Austin American-Statesman and a 1976 journalism graduate of the University of Texas. Also a Daily Texan alum, he joined the Statesman as a staff photographer in the print, film and chemical days, was promoted after 10 years to photo director and for the past 10 years has been overseeing digital operations out of the newsroom at the Statesman. As a student and Texan photographer, Ryall on several occasions walked the deck of the UT Tower and ran his fingers over the now-patched bullet holes that still remind us today of Charles Whitman's shooting spree. He has had the privilege of knowing and working with other journalists who were on the scene that day and hearing their accounts of being there and in one case, being shot.
Now part of a team that directs digital news gathering and presentation, Ryall loves taking advantage of technology and online tools that allow for instantaneous and live reporting from virtually every newsroom staffer.
When not chasing news, Ryall enjoys jogging, flying drones and other aircraft and spending down time with his family.
