Mayte Lara Ibarra
Mayte is a first generation undocumented student in her freshman year at the University of Texas at Austin. She has always been a person who enjoys learning, so she was always keen for a challenge. Mayte graduated as Valedictorian of her high school where she served as her Class President for two years, National Honor Society President, District 5 Representative in the Austin Youth Council, and an active leader in the AVID community. While in school she took over 13 AP and college-level courses and interned with UT’s Mike Ryan Research Lab. Mayte has never let the status placed on her determine her success, and she plans to pursue a career in a STEM field, along with a Ph.D. She will also continue to be active in the community, not only in the academic perspective, but also in the social aspect regarding the rights of undocumented students like herself.
