Keli teaches news satire at Saint Mary's College of California.

After years of being a serious journalist, Keli found comedy. She's the creator of News Hangover, a comedy-news webseries for young women, and NewsZinger, a curated newsletter highlighting satire past and present.

Keli is appearing on a panel at South by Southwest 2017 to discuss how comedy helps people enjoy learning. At South by Southwest 2016 she gave a solo talk called "Comedy is the New Journalism." Her satire efforts have been recognized by Poynter, Huffington Post, the Austin Chronicle, women’s blogs and comedy sites like Whohaha. She sits on the advisory board of Pilot Media Initiatives, a social enterprise committed to enhancing global systems, attitudes and behavior through political satire.

Some notable stops on Keli’s journalism path include the Los Angeles Times, the San Diego Union-Tribune, the TIME Asia bureau, and the Graduate School of Journalism at the University of California, Berkeley.

Keli was a 2014 John S. Knight Fellow at Stanford University, where she developed a small news-agency prototype. She is grounded in the entertainment beat, social justice and political issues, and Monty Python’s Flying Circus. Her first work blending comedy with news reportage explored Chris Rock’s admonition against visiting streets named Martin Luther King.
