Ms. Temple Claggett was appointed Acting Register of Copyrights and Director of the U.S. Copyright Office in October 2016. As Acting Register, Ms. Temple Claggett oversees the administration of the U.S. Copyright Office, which comprises nearly 400 employees working in the areas of copyright registration, recordation, law, and policy. Together, the Office’s registration and recordation systems constitute the largest compilation of copyrighted works and copyright ownership information in the world. The Office also serves as the primary advisor to the U.S. Congress on copyright law and policy issues, and works as a close advisor to federal courts and other federal agencies. Ms. Temple Claggett first joined the Copyright Office in 2011 as a Senior Counsel in the Office of Policy and International Affairs, later serving as the head of that department.

Ms. Temple Claggett earned her law degree from Columbia University School of Law, where she was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and a Senior Editor of the Columbia Law Review. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Michigan.
