Dr. Jay Bernhardt (Ph.D., University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, 1999; M.P.H., Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, 1994) is Professor and Founding Director of the Center for Health Communication and the Everett D. Collier Centennial Chair in Communication in the Moody College of Communication at The University of Texas at Austin. He is also Adjunct Professor at the Austin Regional Campus of The University of Texas School of Public Health at Houston. From 2010-2014, Dr. Bernhardt served as a Professor at the University of Florida, in Gainesville, Florida, and Founding Director of the Center for Digital Health and Wellness. From 2010 to 2013 he also served as Chair of the Department of Health Education and Behavior. From 2005-2010, Dr. Bernhardt served as the Director of the National Center for Health Marketing at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In that role, he led CDC’s health communication, new media, and partnership programs with a staff of more than 500 and a budget of more than $100 million. Prior to his position at the CDC, he served on the faculty at Emory University and the University of Georgia. Dr. Bernhard is a member of six honor societies including the Cap and Skull Society of Rutgers University, and he has received numerous awards, including the Everett M. Rogers Health Communication Award from the American Public Health Association.
