JOE AMODEI BIO
Joe Amodei has enjoyed a career in the video industry for close to thirty years. Joe is one of the few industry veterans who can honestly say he was around since the beginning - when video stores seemed to be on every corner. From the demise of Beta and VHS, through the DVD and eventual Blu-ray convergence and on to today’s digital world, Amodei has seen and been a part of it all. His personal love for independent films and documentaries made its way into his business life when he became President of USA Home Entertainment in 2000. Previously he had enjoyed stints at Polygram Home Video, Turner Home Entertainment and Live Home Entertainment. But it was his work at USA that changed his outlook on films and the industry at large. While shepherding films like Steven Soderbergh’s TRAFFIC, Spike Jones’ BEING JOHN MALKOVICH and Robert Altman’s GOSFORD PARK into the home entertainment world, Amodei learned what it took to get these films noticed. When USA was sold he partnered with John Hart and Jeff Sharp and created Hart Sharp Video. Since then there has been a name change to Virgil Films and Entertainment - but the indie spirit continues. Under Amodei’s leadership the company has released such award winning hits as SUPER SIZE ME, PAPER CLIPS, RESTREPO, AMREEKA, FORKS OVER KNIVES and a host of other hit indie films. He has been able to take his own passion and love for “everything movies” and turn it into a way to help young filmmakers see their dream of getting their film seen. This is his biggest accomplishment.
