Elevating a New Generation of Journalists of Color
Frustration among student journalists of color continues to rise as they experience far more obstacles than colleagues while trying to advance in their journalism career. How can newsrooms tactically seek out but also successfully train and retain talent that is representative of America? Where do newsrooms effectively present marketing and promotions to attract the next generation of journalists of color? How does one train these students by streamlining skills and exposing them to a process that makes them an expert in all areas. What type of tools and unique content development can we provide student journalists of color where they excel in creative formats while presenting stories? Creating paths in the industry ultimately stems from making a personal connection and maintaining that connection – where is there a pipeline like this for diversity, a considerable mentorship program with a national partner?
