The Secret Life of Muslims Explores Muslims in the Media
Dena Takruri hosts a provocative conversation tackling the plagued relationship between Muslim Americans and media portrayal. The centerpiece, Vox’s viral series "The Secret Life of Muslims," makes an assault on the misinterpretations that lead to Islamophobia, examining through humor and empathy what it means to be one of the 3.3 million Muslims in America, and how the media often homogenizes these experiences. The session will include short films from the series and a blunt discussion on the steps filmmakers and journalists can take to make America a more accepting home for their Muslim neighbors.
