At just 28 years old, Houston’s own DJ XO’s musical resume already reads like a seasoned veteran. DJing already for 7 years and producing music for even longer, during the course of his career, XO has been in the studio with industry heavyweights like 2Chains, The Game, rap icon Trina and at present time, R&B sensation, Carl Thomas who also serves as a mentor to the budding artist.

DJ XO taught himself how to play the drums at just 4 years old after falling in love with the stage and applause at church as many entertainers do. His professional career began while still in high school when a young XO teamed up with childhood friend, Darien “D-Boy” Smith and began promoting parties as a way to earn income to help their households. XO taught himself how to produce music and DJ on the tools available to him and as a team they sought to monetize and capitalize. D-Boy is still his current management and together they are still building.

They have been on world tours with the likes of Bad Boy records, Somo Dallas and he is the official tour DJ of Kirko Bangz. XO is now one of the South’s most successful entertainers! He says his regional hit, “How We Do” put him “in position” within the industry but, as fate would have it, an all night recording session with “Sosamann” and “Rizzoo” would lead to an “accidental” smash hit with “Off the Lot”. XO can’t express enough how the single is not the best representation of his music nor what he intends to bring to the rap game. Although he is grateful and humbled by its success, he is glad that with his upcoming release, “Young Legend 2”, that he will have the opportunity to select a single that he feels best speaks to his newfound fan base.

He’s also quick to emphasize that he’s only been rapping for 1 ½ years. He mentions that fact and expresses a desire to grow but in the same breath he wears his fast ascent like a badge of honor. “There’s no one who has done what I’ve done,”. “Young Legend 2” is an ambitious double CD and in his own words, “for the ladies”. XO believes that it will better showcase his capabilities in the booth. The re-introduction of DJ XO through “YL2” will provide the “Fire” with Side A and the “Desire” with Side B And hopes to hold the ladies attention with his lead single, “I Can Tell” and its engaging visuals.

DJ XO thinks like an industry vet too. He believes there is room for everybody amongst Houston’s new wave of artists. He wants everyone to shine and is putting his platform where his mouth is by showcasing other artists. In addition to “YL2”, he is hard at work Executive Producing and hosting SoSouth Distribution’s compilation CD, “Oil & Gas”. Houston heavyweights Propain, Paul Wall and Slim Thug are among some of the contributors and collaborations as well as mega-watt productions from DJ Chose, Code Red and June James.
