This talk by Derek Woodgate and Maggie Duval will discuss how the concepts of education and learning are being reframed to integrate student-centered, adaptive and integral learning systems that meet the dramatic changes in workforce structures and emerging professions. They will explore how STEAM based experiential learning, advancements in multimedia and machine learning, and neuroscience-aided assessment are driving the need for a totally new learning ecosystem.

Derek Woodgate is a consulting futurist, educator, author, speaker and curator. He is Chief Futurist of The Futures Lab, a foresight consultancy, founded in 1996, which specializes in creating future potential for major corporations and institutions. Derek's main fields of expertise include the future of learning and the future of multimedia and entertainment, especially the fusing of these two fields.
Also, Derek is an Assistant Professor at the University of Adger in Norway, teaching courses on the Future of Mobile Learning and the Future of Media and Entertainment; and is an Adjunct Professor at GSU, teaching the Future of Education/Learning in the Learning Technologies Division, College of Education and Human Development.
He is currently completing his PhD (ABD) at the University of Adger at the Faculty of Engineering. and Science. Theme: "The Augmented Learner: The potential impact of emerging multimedia technologies on the future of experiential leaning."
Derek is also the Director of Future L;earning at The Futures Lab's non-profit: LIFE (Learning Innovations for Future Education). www.livinglearning.co
From 2006, Derek has been CCO of a future-focused entertainment and events production company, FEEL, where he created numerous "living the future" experiential events. www.livingthefutureevents.com
Derek has previous experience as an executive on the board of two major international corporations and over 20 years SVP-level management and operational experience and ex-diplomat.
Derek is a founding member and ex-board member of the Association of Professional Futurists; ex-President of the Central Texas Chapter of the WFS; member of The World Futures Studies Federation.
Lived and worked in eleven countries and is at home in seven languages.
Authored books include Future Frequencies (2004), Calling the Toads (1999) and Future Flow (2016).

Maggie Duval serves as co-founder and Director of Learning Innovations in Future Education (LIFE), established in 2012 as a 501(c)3 non-profit primarily focused on research and development of participative approaches to the changing needs of education. Additionally, since 2006, she has also headed up The Future Entertainment and Events Lab (FEEL, formerly Plutopia Productions), creators and producers of signature “Living the Future” sense events.
Both organizations are umbrellaed under the international foresight consultancy, The Futures Lab, Inc. (TFL). Over the last decade, TFL has been working continuously on the intersection of future multimedia technologies and learning, which informs, augments, and provides research and content for both LIFE and FEEL.
Since its formation, LIFE has successfully undertaken a number of major innovative, experiential learning projects both for academia and other learning related organizations. Its flagship product is STEAM3: The Future of Learning and Education, a successful, proven (UT, Austin 2014 and Georgia State University, Atlanta, GA, 2015) interactive "living the future" event and conference exploring the future of experiential education.
FEEL productions include the SXSW Interactive related Plutopia extravaganzas (The Science of Music, Living Systems, The Future of Play, The Future of Imagination), and the FutureMusic Summit 2012. Outside of FEEL, Maggie has also produced the successful Austin Nonprofit Bar Camp (“unconference”), The 20th Anniversary of the Raid on Steve Jackson Games, WhuffieFest: Cory Doctorow in Austin, and Next eCon: Exploring the Emerging Economy.
