Alternative Recording Studio Models

Friday, March 18
2:00PM - 3:00PM

Austin Convention Center
Artist Central in Ballroom E
531 E 4th St

Recording studios (including legendary ones) have largely fallen on hard times. The availability of moderately priced recording equipment, the proliferation of basic engineering skills, and the prolonged transition in the economics of recordings mean more and more artists and independent producers are creating content outside of traditional spaces. New models have emerged--corporate sponsored studios, non-profits, and less elaborate mid-size studios intensely focused on local markets. The importance of great sounding rooms where artists can interact over the creation of original content has not diminished. But sustaining these spaces requires significant creativity and dedication.
