Matt Gallagher: Iraq War Vet, Youngblood Author
Matt Gallagher, a former U.S. Army captain, Iraq war veteran, is here to discuss his debut novel Youngblood, out last month from Atria/Simon & Schuster. Youngblood has enjoyed rave reviews from Michiko Kakutani of The New York Times (“Urgent and deeply moving novel”) and Roxana Robinson of The Washington Post (“Gallagher’s voice is vital, literary…lyrical.“)
Matt spent fifteen months in Iraq in 2007 and 2008, during the Surge, and kept a blog over there called 'Kaboom' that got shut down by his chain-of-command. He has written about a variety of topics, from contemporary warfare to the military-civilian divide in America to participating in the Big Buck Hunter World Championships.
