While short form content continues to gather momentum across digital platforms, there is still a great appetite for narrative-driven feature films with themes that Generation Z and young millennials can relate to. New indie studios are challenging the status quo and driving a major shift by casting rising stars breaking through in the digital space and connecting them with established directors, producers and Black List scripts. Matt Kaplan serves as president of the newly launched Awesomeness Films division from the multi-platform media company AwesomenessTV. Based in the company’s Los Angeles offices, he jointly manages all aspects of the company alongside AwesomenessTV founder and CEO Brian Robbins. Kaplan is responsible for building out the division with a focus on producing and acquiring elevated young adult material, featuring traditional and digital talent across all budget ranges for both wide and limited releases.
Prior to Awesomeness Films, Matt founded Chapter One Films, where he produced many projects including Akiva Goldsman’s STEPHANIE, THE LAZARUS EFFECT, starring Olivia Wilde, and VIRAL, directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman.
Matt was also the Senior Vice President of Development and Production at Lionsgate Films. There he produced a number of features including THEY CAME TOGETHER, directed by David Wain and starring Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler, which premiered at Sundance.Hide the rest
