The Influence of UK Fandoms
We will discuss the influence of a UK fan base on digital growth, and how the UK is poised to be the world’s stage in music fandoms, causing other major markets to look at content distribution and social engagement differently. From Beatlemania to One Direction, UK fandoms have been rampant for 50+ years. Instead of one Ed Sullivan, now the internet is home to millions. According to BPI, for 2015, 1 in every 7 albums sold anywhere in the world is by a UK artist. These artists accounted for 13.7% of global sales and undoubtedly dominated at home with 53.5% of UK Official Chart album sales. We will focus on UK acts as well as foreign acts like Haim and Vic Mensa who first broke in the UK.
