Peace Officer: a Character Film Driven By Issues
Peace Officer, winner of the 2015 SXSW Grand Jury & Audience Awards was directed by first time feature directors Scott Christopherson and Brad Barber. In this panel they walk you through the process of making of an independent documentary from pre-production to post, when you don’t win grants, workshops, or labs. Peace Officer is about the militarization of police, but rather than craft a polemic around a chorus of talking heads, the directors feature a compelling character from within the culture of police who guides the audience with empathy and commitment. This panel also explores how to tell a captivating character-driven story first and let the issues emerge on their own.
