In 1970, Nobel Prize winning economist Milton Friedman wrote a New York Times Op-ed called "The Social Responsibility of Business is to Increase its Profits" in which he argued that the sole purpose of business is to maximize shareholder value and that anyone who disagrees is “undermining the basis of a free society”.
Needless to say, we disagree :-)
