Benjamin Todd Jealous is a Partner at Kapor Capital, where he invests in seed-stage startup companies that use technology to solve touch social problems such as making poverty less expensive, high quality education more accessible, and living wage jobs more prevalent. An internationally renowned civil and human rights leader, Jealous works at the intersection of technology and social impact.
Between 2008 and 2013, Jealous served as the president and CEO of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the nation’s oldest and largest civil rights organization. Under his leadership, the NAACP grew to be the largest civil rights organization online and on mobile devices, as well as in the streets.  While he was at the helm, the NAACP experienced its first multi-year membership growth in 20 years. It became the largest community-based nonpartisan voter registration operation in the country, and nearly doubled its revenues.
A builder of robust coalitions, Jealous’ leadership at the NAACP included bringing environmental organizations into the fight to protect voting rights, multiple LGBT organizations to the frontline of the fight against racial profiling, and convincing well-known conservatives to join the NAACP in challenging mass incarceration. Jealous also played a critical role in successful state and local movements to ban the death penalty, outlaw racial profiling, defend voting rights, secure marriage equality, and free multiple wrongfully incarcerated people.
Prior to leading the NAACP, he spent 15 years serving as a journalist and community organizer.  While at Mississippi’s Jackson Advocate newspaper, his investigations were credited with exposing corruption at a state penitentiary and proving the innocence of a black farmer who was being framed for arson.  At Amnesty International, he provided leadership for successful efforts to outlaw prison rape, expose the increasing trend of children being sentenced to life without the possibility of parole, and draw attention to expanded racial profiling in the wake of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.  In 2007, he co-founded VoteHope, a 10 million dollar independent expenditure operation that helped then Senator Obama win several early presidential primary states.
Jealous currently serves on the Board of Directors of the tech firm Pigeonly, which helps incarcerated men and women stay in contact with their families and society through low-cost cutting-edge voice and image sharing technology. He is an advisor to both WorkAmerica-- a social impact startup that helps unemployed Americans embark on well-paying technical careers-- and PayNearMe--a startup that helps people who do not have credit cards access to online economy. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Level Playing Field Institute, Rosenberg Foundation, and Southern Elections Fund.
A Rhodes Scholar, Jealous has been named to the 40 under 40 lists of both Forbes and Time magazines. In 2013, he was  #1 on TheRoot.com list of black leaders under 45.

Jean Case is an actively engaged philanthropist, investor and a pioneer in the world of interactive technologies. Her career in the private sector spanned nearly two decades before she and her husband, Steve Case, created the Case Foundation in 1997. A passionate believer in all things digital and the amazing potential of technology to change the world for the better, Jean and her team focus the efforts of the Foundation around many of the same entrepreneurial approaches she and Steve cultivated throughout their business careers. The Case Foundation is recognized for its innovative efforts to address significant social challenges, harnessing the best impulses of entrepreneurship, innovation, technology and collaboration to drive exponential impact.

In addition to her role as Chairman of the National Geographic Society Board of Trustees, Jean serves on the boards of Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure, the White House Historical Association and BrainScope Company, Inc. She also serves on the advisory boards of the Harvard Business School Social Enterprise Initiative, the Stanford Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society, Georgetown University’s Beeck Center for Social Impact & Innovation, the Brain Trust Accelerator Fund and the U.S. National Advisory Board to the Social Impact Investing Task Force.

Jean and Steve joined The Giving Pledge, started by Melinda and Bill Gates and Warren Buffett in 2010. Jean and Steve have been named as Barron’s “25 Best Givers”, the National Conference on Citizenship Citizens of the Year, and Washingtonians of the Year. Jean was also named Corporate Philanthropist of the Year by the Washington Business Journal, and received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Harvard Business School Alumni Association of Washington DC. She has received honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degrees from Indiana University and George Mason University.

LAURA WEIDMAN POWERS
CO-FOUNDER AND CEO

Laura Weidman Powers is the co-founder and CEO of CODE2040, a nonprofit that creates pathways to success in the innovation economy for Blacks and Latino/as. She brings to this work a background in entrepreneurship, nonprofit management, youth development, and technology. Laura has started two organizations in the education space, one nonprofit arts education organization in West Philadelphia that is currently celebrating its 10th year, and one for-profit tutoring company that gave rise to a book.
Laura first explored the tech space as a project manager in a small web development shop in New York and, most recently before CODE2040, she served as VP of Product at a consumer web startup in Los Angeles, redesigning the product development process to be inclusive of engineers.
Laura is a 2013 Echoing Green Fellow and a 2013 Stanford Social Innovation Fellow. The Root named her one of the 100 Most Influential African-Americans in 2013 and Goldman Sachs named her one of the 100 Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs of 2013. In 2015, San Francisco Magazine saluted her as one of 37 Soldiers of Social Change, and Fortune named her one of 10 Female Executives on the Rise. Her work has been covered by The New York Times, Forbes, NBC, Bloomberg, Fast Company, NPR, and others. Laura currently sits on the National Advisory Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship. She has a BA cum laude from Harvard College and a JD and an MBA from Stanford University.
