Behind the Blue Screen is a project to collect stories from countries from which you don’t hear a lot of new stories. Countries like Iran, where the government is censoring the news and journalists have difficulty doing their job. Countries on which our mainstream media usually show the same politicised stories.

The Bluescreen App allows storytellers to make video-selfies. Users can share their personal stories more freely because their faces are covered by a mask that still shows their emotion. The app uses the same face recognition software normally used for censoring images. The stories are collected through a strictly offline 'sneakernet' and translated in Dutch and English. The best stories are published through the Dutch news website de Correspondent.
