The United Nations Foundation, through its Universal Access Project, and in partnership with the Mobile Alliance for Maternal Action (MAMA), Participant Media, and the United Nations Population Fund are hosting a documentary film screening, followed by a panel discussion, highlighting the importance of empowering girls and women to plan their families and plan their lives and underscoring the critical role mobile phone technology plays in educating women about their reproductive health. The event will kick-off with a 25-minute clip from Participant Media’s Tribeca documentary Misconception, which tells the story of Uganda reporter, Gladys Kalibbala, who searches for the root causes behind the abandonment of thousands of children in Uganda and lands on a lack of access to reproductive health. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion about the critical need to provide girls and women around the world with access to family planning by speakers from the United Nations Foundation, Participant Media, and the United Nations Population Fund.
