Artists get their music exposed by playing and videotaping live sessions at radio stations. Even the most well-traveled artists can only reach so many markets. In response, a historic public radio partnership is launching here at SXSW. “VuHaus" is a new consumer-facing music video channel that expands the exposure of local and national acts. Mike Henry is CEO of media consulting firm Paragon and a 2012 Peabody Award winner. Mike has 30+ years experience consulting radio, record labels, TV, cable, satellite radio, digital media, emerging technology, media lenders and buyers. Specialties include media start-ups, creating new media content and business models, social, mobile and public media. Mike is a long-time music and format specialist who helped create over a dozen new radio formats over the past 30 years, including Alternative, Triple A, Modern AC and Adult Hits (“Jack FM”). Mike currently has helped launch or consults many public media Music Discovery stations, including WFUV/New York, KCMP/Minneapolis, KKXT/Dallas, KUTX/Austin and RadioMilwaukee. He also has a history of working for digital media start-ups, including Sony eMarker, Clip Interactive and “Music X” (code name). A nationally recognized tastemaker filled with a broad knowledge and passion for music, Program Director Rita Houston shapes the musical direction of WFUV's acclaimed and unique music format. Firmly based in the greatest city in the world, Houston's music mix brings 'rock for grownups' diversity to the left end of the New York radio dial.Well-known for her rapport with artists, Houston books the on-air interviews, hosting a number of them herself. She also serves as Executive Producer of the FUV Live concert series, curates the WFUV at Zankel Hall series, and produces annual benefit CDs of performances from WFUV's Studio A.
After years as a popular midday host, Houston shifted her on-air presence to create 'The Whole Wide World with Rita Houston,' which airs Friday nights from 7-10pm, showcasing her famously wide-ranging taste in music and often features live sessions with artists from around the globe.Hide the rest
