When a Moment Becomes a Movement
What does it take to create effective human rights impact in the world? Do we focus on what is happening locally or turn our attention towards international strategies? We believe it takes both. Amnesty International is a Nobel Peace Prize winning grassroots organization with over 50 years of human rights work. We’ve investigated and exposed abuses, educated and mobilized the public and helped transform societies to create a more just world. Amnesty International USA reported on police brutality in Ferguson, MO, advocated for the release of 234 schoolgirls kidnapped in Nigeria, and mobilized the public to demand the release of a Sudanese woman on death row for refusing to renounce her faith. Steven W. Hawkins, Executive Director and Cammie Croft, Deputy Executive Director will lead a discussion on how technology can be used to leverage local responses to injustice and build an international movement capable of mobilizing millions to achieve human rights victory and policy change.
