Making the Museum of Food and Drink

The American food movement is composed of two camps: food as entertainment and food as politics. However, these two sides of the table rarely talk to each other. To bridge this gap and build a healthier food culture, we need to make food education both fun and inclusive. In this session, the founders of the Museum of Food and Drink will describe our idea for an innovative, interactive, immersive museum with exhibits you can eat. We'll explore how a food museum can guide us to a better future: by understanding food's connections with history, culture, science, and technology, we can understand not only what we eat, but also *why* we eat and how our food choices impact the world. We'll also describe some exhibition ideas (like "Ready To Eat: The Story of Breakfast Cereal" and "Food on the Battlefield") and how these ideas relate to our educational goals. Of course, we'll also ask the audience what they'd like to see in a food museum, because what is a museum, if not a public resource?
