Building Community with the Open Lab Blueprint
Open labs have reframed the biolab as a community resource. They attract a diverse, vibrant community of makers and citizen scientists. Being a relatively new phenomenon, with more being founded every year, Genspace realized we were in a unique position to share our experience in order to help others starting a lab in their own community through the Open Lab Blueprint. The Open Lab Blueprint is designed to enable people to launch an open lab from scratch. It is a system for fostering the DIY bio community around the world via cross-platform documentation and open DIY tools. During our conversation we will be taking the audience through a journey of utilizing the Blueprint to launch a community biolab, discussing why we chose these main components, and how, through our own experiences as a diverse community of makers and scientists we were able to come together to create something larger than ourselves.
