How Serialized Fiction Is Rewriting the Book

Monday, March 16
9:30AM - 10:30AM

Four Seasons
Ballroom AB
98 San Jacinto Blvd

Digital, serialized storytelling is changing the way books are written and read. Serials are easy for authors, convenient for readers, and a leaner approach to publishing.

New ventures in the publishing world are looking to the TV production process to find cost-effective, scalable ways to make serials. This panel features perspectives from writers, development executives, and product leaders. Michelle Miller launched "The Underwriting" as a weekly fiction series, landing her a deal with Penguin. JukePop fosters serialized writing; two of its top authors have had their work optioned for TV. Jon Nathanson, a Hollywood development executive and Slate columnist, is commissioning fiction series in the style of TV—with high concepts, production bibles, showrunners, and writing teams. Henry Hall, lead product manager for the Kindle at Amazon, is rethinking the way the world's largest bookseller works with writers, approaches new formats, and engages its readers.
