Nudges for Good: Apps That Make Better People
A raft of new apps and services are using emotional cues, timely nudges and psychological tricks to help us change our ways. We're enveloped by always-on connected devices. Data points on our progress are collected constantly in the background: How many steps we walk, calories we consume, dollars we spend, hours we sleep and e-mails we write.
Data that gets logged and analyzed to create a wealth of information, to be visualized and presented back to us, but then what? How do we turn data into change? The next generation of apps are deftly steering us into compliance without a conscious thought, a tap on the tiller and we're set for a new course. This talk will look in detail at how to design your product to change the people who use it, whether they are aware of it or not. These ideas apply to every platform. If you're designing a mobile, wearable, IoT or web app to change behavior then this talk will give you some practical techniques to upgrade your users.
