The Life and Times of a Young Innovator

Sunday, March 15
3:30PM - 4:30PM

Long Center
West Pincer Lounge
701 W Riverside Dr

With the rise of the “maker movement” and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education programs, an increasing number of student innovators are empowered to bring their ideas and projects to life. What started out as a hobby or school science project has real-world potential to become a reality – making an impact on the way we work, play and live while driving interest and involvement in science and tech education. This session will provide a first-hand look at the culture and trend of fostering young DIYers, hackers, makers and innovators from 15-year-old Shiva Nathan, who created an award-winning prosthetic arm to help amputee patients lead better, more enriched lives. The discussion will explore the challenges facing young innovators, resources and environments needed, the progress of science and tech education and the evolvement that will transform today’s young innovators into tomorrow’s tech gurus.
