For the past ten years, Jed Sundwall has focused on finding ways that the Internet can improve the quality of governance around the world. As the Open Data Technical Business Development Manager at Amazon Web Services, he helps the world use cloud computing to create more open data.

Before joining Amazon Web Services, he created Measured Voice, a social media management tool designed for government. Measured Voice is used by the U.S. Department of Energy, NOAA, Texas.gov, USA.gov, and World Wildlife Fund among many others. Measured Voice was honored to participate in the 1st Code for America Accelerator program.

He is also the founder of Open San Diego, a group that works to make data about San Diego freely available. Launched late in 2009, Open San Diego has quickly developed a vibrant community of volunteer software developers, journalists, and citizens interested in leveraging the power of data to improve the quality of policymaking, journalism, and decision making in San Diego.

Since 2011 Marc has been a fellow of the National Science Foundation researching the historical and cultural aspects of computing. As part of a larger ethnographic project on computer modeling and climate change, Marc conducted research on interactive cartography for Intel Labs in 2010.

From 2006 to 2008 Marc was an intellectual property strategy consultant for Thinkfire Services. Marc holds a B.A. in Philosophy from Columbia University and an MS in Cultural Anthropology from University of California, Irvine where he is also pursuing his PhD.
