In the last few years, mobile has transformed the way people travel. Travelers are using mobile apps to research potential getaways, get inspired about where they want to go, and ultimately to book their travel. But just building an app or mobile site is not enough to close the sale. Design and usability are essential differentiators in creating a brand narrative and engaged customers. In this session, CEO Sam Shank will share why design is crucial in mobile and best practices when designing for mobile commerce. He’ll dig into mobile design complexities, provide insight into some of the challenges that HT has encountered and show how design improvements help conversion rates. He’ll also share details on how design doesn’t stop at the app, but instead should be a key part of a company’s culture.

A travel-obsessed serial entrepreneur, Sam previously founded and was CEO of DealBase.com, a travel deals search engine, and was CEO of TravelPost.com, a hotel reviews site. SideStep acquired TravelPost.com and Sam stayed on as VP of business development until its fortunate acquisition by Kayak. Sam also worked in comparison shopping at Excite, CNET and NexTag. Not at all surprisingly, he was an assistant to Wes Craven on the film Scream.
