Prerequisites:
This is a conceptual workshop.
What to Bring:
Something to take notes, and you may want a computer or mobile device to look things up or show things off.
Background:
Whether you’re building a mobile app, web app, or desktop app, on-boarding the customer can make or break your product. Users get frustrated, don't complete the process, or go into the app with a bad taste in their mouth. The primary pitfall to rapid on-boarding is typically user authentication, creating an account, choosing a username or password, etc. This workshop is about the concepts, practices, and technologies that help you avoid those common pitfalls and what the future holds for security.
Format of Workshop:
Well start by discussing our background, the frameworks around on-boarding, common user frustrations, platform considerations (including interoperability), existing and emerging technologies, ancillary benefits, and then the best general practices to create a great user experience. We'll show practical examples of good and bad design and dissect the problems. There will be an intermission and then we’ll split off into groups that are platform specific to discuss more focused issues and solutions. There will be a follow-on group discussion and opportunities to discuss your actual app or service.
Key Topics:
We hope you'll come away with a new respect for how critical the on-boarding process is to your product for services success. Specifically, you will learn about forms of authentication other than username/password combinations, why they are important to your success, and the ancillary benefits.
