What you've been promised about communicating openly with anyone across your organization isn't entirely true. Even though trends you may read about suggest otherwise, even though people say they want to be more transparent, many don’t. Not everybody wants to hear your ideas or opinions, and sometimes, your colleagues aren't even allowed to hear them. Being social is who you are. You've made being social part of who you are, so it probably comes as a shock to know that reaching out might be difficult if not impossible. But sometimes, there are reasons why a company may want or need wall off certain people or groups from others. There may be ethical, generational, or cultural challenges, or there may be regulatory or legal implications that prevent collaborative communication. So how do you know when you should be social and when you should be anti-social?
