Tech My Mind: The Age of Instant Gratification

Creatives are reinventing the standards of content development to serve a highly dynamic generation raised on instantly gratifying web & mobile experiences ranging from YouTube to Vine to Netflix. This panel examines the successes of new and emerging methods of engagement and the impact it has on the human condition, answering the question ‘how can we use technology, music, film & other forms of media to balance our culture between instant gratification and delayed gratification?’ We’ll consider learnings from the shift from programmed to on-demand media through Netflix, social media activism via twitter and the opportunity these shifts present to facilitate transformation in our society. This panel takes it's inspiration from the “The Marshmallow Experiment” of the late 60’s and 70’s performed at Stanford University to study the effects of delayed gratification where results found that children who were able to delay gratification were “significantly more competent” adolescents.
