Sport science and technology is the newest competitive advantage sought by teams at all levels of play. From heart rate to distance run to athletic intelligence, it is now possible to measure over 75 different aspects of athletic performance. However, collecting data is not the competitive advantage. Interpreting this data is the key. The goal of this presentation is to discuss the newest technology in sport science as well as best practices and applications for maximizing an athlete's true potential. Dr. Leonard Zaichkowsky is a licensed psychologist (Ma) who specializes in sport, exercise, and performance psychology. He has a joint appointment in the School of Education and School of Medicine, Division of Psychiatry, and Division of Graduate Medical Sciences. He is a past- president of the Association for the Advancement of Applied Sport Psychology (1997- 99), a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Applied Sport Psychology, and currently section editor on psychology for the International Journal of Health & Sport Science. He also reviews articles for 6 leading scientific journals and textbook publishing companies. He has authored or edited six books with the most recent being, “Medical and Psychological Aspects of Sport & Exercise”, FIT Publishing (2002). He has published over 100 papers on sport psychology, physical education, sports medicine, research design, and related topics in scholarly journals or books as well as numerous magazine and newspaper columns.Hide the rest

As the Director of Clinical and Sport Psychology for the University of Arizona’s athletic department, Scott Goldman, Ph.D. provides direct patient care to the student-athletes as well as consulting services for the coaches and staff. Dr. Goldman has provided mental health care in a variety of settings for amateur, collegiate, semi-professional, and professional athletes.
Dr. Goldman has presented nationally and internationally as well as written about mental health issues in athletic and general populations. He is currently one of five national experts tapped by the NCAA to provide professional oversight for the new guidelines and revisions for the NCAA Sports Medicine Handbook. Dr. Goldman is a member of the NCAA Mental Health Task Force and the NFL/NCAA Mental Health Think Tank.Hide the rest
