Jane Penny (vocals, keyboard) and David Carriere (guitar) have been writing pop songs together for a while, having formed their musical union way back in 2008. They started TOPS in Montreal during the autumn of 2011, and are backed by Riley Fleck on drums and Madeline Glowicki on bass. TOPS have spent the last 12 months writing and recording their second album; the as-yet-untitled follow up to Tender Opposites (Arbutus 2012) is self-recorded and produced with a straight up sound, showcasing their songwriting, focused musicianship and further cementing their soft psych muscle gaze.
