Event Cinema: Taking Rock 'n Roll to the Big Screen

The event cinema business is a rapidly growing sector in theatrical exhibition. Rock concerts - live and recorded - are increasingly receiving global theatrical releases and being marketed as special events for one night only or limited engagements. For cinemas, this is a proving a great way to get better seat fills on non-peak screening slots and for the music industry it is both an exciting new marketing platform and an increasingly attractive revenue stream. This panel will look how the event cinema market got started, how it has been building and where it is going. It will look at what it means to musicians and the industry - financially and from a brand building and marketing perspective, It will look at the global market and and what territories are having the most success and the logistics of a global event cinema release.

13 years in Australia where he founded a series of music and media companies, including magazine publishers Attic Press, Mighty Boy Records and GLD Music and Avviso Public Relations and The Box Asia Pacific (music television).

Since returning to Europe 12 years ago, has been an active investor and entrepreneur in the property,fashion, media and music sectors.

Now a partner at Ironbridge Capital (ironbridgecp.com) and founder and CEO of Omniverse Vision, a global producer and distributor of alternative content and event cinema for cinemas and digital platforms.

Grant is also a business mentor to the Princes Trust, a guitar practitoner of small talent and a kitchen wizz of greater talent.

Specialties: Founding, investing in and advising small companies, principally in the media and entertainment sectors.


John Rubey

John Rubey, brings over 25 years of digital content and entertainment marketing experience to his position as President of Rubey Entertainment. Rubey is responsible for the overall vision, entertainment marketing, digital content development and execution of the company’s strategic initiatives.

Prior to Rubey Entertainment, Rubey oversaw the filming and distribution of all AEG Network LIVE’s music festivals to leading content distributors such as: VEVO, YouTube, HULU, Yahoo!, MySpace and others, in addition to festival and artist sites, mobile phones and high-definition TV. In addition, Rubey was directly responsible for capturing the industry’s top music festivals and concert performance in digital 3D for cinema distribution worldwide.

In addition to previously being the President of AEG Network LIVE, Rubey founded and owned Spring Communications, a leader in Pay Per View concerts and events, and before that held the position of COO of PACE Management, (now LIVE Nation) for over six years prior to founding Spring Communications.

As Senior Director of Programming for Fathom Events, the domestic leader in providing alternative content to the largest U.S. cinemas, Kymberli has spent nearly 7 years vetting,creating and exhibiting special one night only events for the nations largest US movie Theatres.
