#sxsw #SXsports

How do you succeed and change the perception of viewers in a non traditional sport? We all play sports as kids but It's extremely difficult to not only play the games we love at the professional level never mind have it become your career. The dedication and sacrifice needed to compete at your sports highest level brings with it the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. During this session I'll talk about my experiences and also answer questions from the audience.

Anson Carter

Founder

Big Up Entertainment LLC

After completing an All American career at Michigan State University, Toronto native Anson Carter played in the NHL for over a decade and one year in Switzerland.

At the conclusion of his playing career, Carter had lived in East Lansing Michigan, Washington D.C, Edmonton, New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Columbus Ohio, and Lugano Switzerland. All of which provided an excellent training ground for experiencing the way different multimillion dollar business organizations are run and getting a feel for developing trends in the sports & entertainment industries as they might apply to different demographics.

Due to the year long work stoppage in 2003, Carter took advantage of his extensive network of entertainment contacts and started Big Up Entertainment and Executive Produced the rap duo Main N Merc's first album. Their first single Passion N Pain climbed to #6 on the college charts. While playing for the Columbus Blue Jackets Carter created and executive produced the Blue Jacket Christmas album along with writing the Blue Jacket 12 days of Christmas single. The album went on to sell thousands of units and Carter was able to donate all of the proceeds to local Columbus charities.

Following his foray into the music industry Carter produced the hilarious teen comedy Bald, which is currently being distributed by Image Entertainment.

Carter is also the Chairman and a Co-Founder of the clothing line SOMB, (www.somb.com) which has made a tremendous impact on society. SOMB is the acronym for Shirt Off My Back and is built on the one for one model. SOMB donates a full school uniform enabling a child to go to school in Africa for every article of clothing sold. Celebrities have been quick to endorse the brand with Britney Spears, Eva Longoria, Snoop Dog, Common, Adrian Grenier, Nia Vardalos, Alyssa Milano, Matisyahu, and Ryan Pillippe to name a few; who were spotted photographed wearing the SOMB brand.

Currently Carter is one of televisions top hockey analysts and he can be found covering the New York Rangers on MSG Networks, in addition to national College and NHL games on NBC, NBCSN and CNBC.

Currently Carter resides in Atlanta, GA with his family.
