Network Convergence Accelerates Toward Automobiles

#sxsw #autotech

With ABI forecasting that global original equipment manufacturer (OEM) connected car system penetration will increase from 11.4% in 2012 to 60.1% in 2017, automotive manufacturers are under significant pressure to keep pace with competitors and deliver cutting edge in-vehicle features. Before we start talking concierge services and self-driving cars, we must first take a look under the hood to determine if our infrastructure befits next generation vehicles.
As the automobile converges with the mobile ecosystem, combining Gigabit wired connectivity speeds with advanced 5G wireless solutions is critical to building a truly networked car. During this session, Dr. Ali Abaye, Senior Director, Automotive & PHY, Broadcom will discuss connectivity trends and protocols driving the global adoption of in-vehicle infotainment/telematics and will explain how automotive manufacturers must effectively combine wired and wireless technology to navigate the next stretch of the mobile highway.
