From Rosie to Siri: Shifting Robotic Perceptions
For most of us, the idea of what is and isn't a robot is based in science-fiction and cartoons. The humanoid machines from "The Jetsons," "Terminator" and "iRobot" are typical of what many perceive as a robot. A broader definition is beginning to emerge, though: a machine capable of carrying out a complex series of actions automatically, especially one programmable by a computer. Experiences like Google Now, Tempo Smart Calendar and Siri combine data from a multitude of sources to automate dull-as-paste activities. This presentation by David Reeves, SVP, Director of Creative Innovation and Development at 22squared, will explore changing perceptions of what it means to be a robot, sensor technologies, computational linguistics and artificial intelligence (AI).
